Our Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility

Sunshine Home Share Colorado values inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in all areas of our organization. We actively seek and welcome people of color, women, persons with disabilities, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and those who are at the intersections of these identities. By doing so, we strengthen our ability to connect with and reflect the diverse communities we serve. This allows us to effectively further our mission in a more inclusive way.

Sunshine Home Share Colorado commits to the following strategic goals:

1. Promote equity in our services, programs, systems, policies, behaviors, and practices.
2. Develop and expand the diversity of our board, staff, and volunteers to be more reflective of the diverse communities we serve.
3. Empower stakeholders, including board, staff, and community partners, to address how systemic inequities impact our work.
4. Develop a comprehensive understanding of complex IDEA issues to strengthen our organization, ensure access to our services, with a commitment to work through an equitable lens.
5. Be an advocate for those who are aging in place, seeking affordable housing, working on better financial health and wellbeing, and especially for members of historically underrepresented and marginalized groups.

History

Sunshine Home Share is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 2015 by Alison L. Joucovsky, a geriatric Licensed Professional Counselor to meet the growing demand for both affordable housing and senior services in Denver. The program is based on a proven home sharing model used in 64 cities nationwide.

Sunshine is the first senior-focused home sharing program in Colorado facilitated by geriatric social workers. Our social workers offer care management services, education, and advocacy by utilizing an intensive, client centered home sharing model and financial wellness and empowerment program. The financial wellness and empowerment program helps clients take control of their finances by providing one on one education and services.
